SEC to propose new “accredited investor” rule

The SEC is meeting today and will consider whether to propose new rules under the Securities Act of 1933 to revise the criteria for natural persons to be considered “accredited investors” for purposes of investing in hedge funds.

The SEC will also consider whether to propose a new antifraud rule under the antifraud provisions (Section 206) of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.
